was born on January 9, 1928 in Polignano a Mare, Puglia,
Italy. He was married to Franca Gandolfi. He died on August
6, 1994 in Lampedusa, Pelagie Islands, Sicily, Italy.(IMDB) |

Pop singer. When his song "Nel blu dipinto di blu"
hit the #1 slot on the US charts in 1958, it became the
only Italian song ever to do so. It went on to win the very
first "Record of the Year" and "Song of the
Year" categories at the Grammys when the recording
industry's awards show premiered that year. When English
lyrics were later added, artists such as Dean Martin, Nelson
Riddle, Bobby Rydell, Al Martino, The McGuire Sisters, Alan
Dale, Barry White, Linda Ross, Jesse Belvin each released
their own covers of the song. Father of Marco Modugno, Marcello
Modugno and Massimo Modugno. He made over 200 recordings
and sold 60 million records, in the process becoming Italy's
most successful performing artist. Modugno had begun his
career as a small part supporting actor in films. Derived
the idea for his 1958 hit song 'Nel Blu Dipinto Di Blu'
"while thinking of a painting by Chagall, of a man,
with half of his face painted blue, looking out of a window".
In later life turned to politics and, in 1987, became an

- Nacque a Napoli il 30 ott. 1866. Non si hanno notizie
sulla sua formazione musicale: fu presumibilmente autodidatta,
anche se la precoce affermazione nel mondo della canzone
napoletana, accanto a musicisti di solida preparazione,
lascia supporre che il suo tirocinio si sia realizzato negli
ambienti ufficiali della gloriosa scuola napoletana in cui
avrebbe maturato solide esperienze tecniche e culturali.
Fu infatti l'ottima preparazione tecnica, unita a un innato
talento e a una spontanea ed estroversa musicalità, che
gli consentì di inserirsi negli ambienti più qualificati
del mondo musicale napoletano e di farsi conoscere quale
originale autore di melodie che lo introdussero di diritto
nel novero dei più celebrati compositori partenopei dell'ultimo
decennio del sec. XIX. La fama da lui raggiunta è dimostrata
infatti da una serie ininterrotta di successi che tra il
1890 e il 1901 lo videro tra gli autori più affermati nel

De Gregorio (1866-1933) was a Neapolitan composer,
who wrote many songs, but probably the most sognificant
ones, are "Ndringhete ndra!" 1895 and
"Napule bello" 1898. With Napule bello
he even won the competition "Piedigrotta"
1898 over " 'O sole mio!" from Eduardo
di Capua, which took second prize.
"Ndringhete, ndrà"
is a neapolitan frase using like an answer to a
bothersome question. It tells the story of a beautiful
young girl, selling water with ice in the summer.
Everybody comes to buy water from her, but nobody
manages to steal her heart...Nobody can marry her!
Why? Well...Ndringhete ndra! :) This version
is 1 ton higher than the original and is for higher
voices, but you can have the other one or in any

Solenghi-Marchesini-Lopez e anche primedonne come Heather
Parisi.In particolare le due edizioni di Non stop furono
estremamente innovative nel contenuto, nella formula e

some point during the year, probably between completion
of La noia and the start of La calda vita, Catherine recorded
an appearance on a TV show in Italy (that did not air until
December). The December 18, 1963 edition of Variety contains
a review of a 75-minute variety show directed by Enzo Trapani
called "Smash" that aired on RAI-TV. The review
states in part: "A
confused, too often unfunny, their new variety show taken
off the local shelf by RAI-TV after some months in the can,
wasted the talents of several valuable performers...Among
bright spots, though denoting age in obvious age of months-old
songs, were p.a.'s by comely Catherine Spaak, effectively
singing 'Noi Due' (We Two)...to top reaction."
I have
never seen any footage of that TV appearance, nor do I have
any other information about it at this time. |
