01-Chronicle of Events of Our Website in the Past 20 Years

On August 8, 2003, under the promotion of several like-minded friends, at the age of 66, I chose the new "career" of "webmaster". The website of "Ennio Moricone Fans" created by Chinese people has appeared in the East and China. From 2003 to 2023, 20 years passed in a flash and occupied a corner of life. Although our small website is far from comparable to those big websites, in 20 years, we have received more than 2 million (IP) visitors from more than 200 countries and regions around the world. It is like a tiny dandelion, constantly blowing its seeds to China and the world. It has established itself in the world's Morricone Fans. Now, let's review its many important events in the past 20 years:

1 - August 8, 2003. The website and an editing team has been established. Within one year, there were 1516 registered members.

2. From October 30, 2003 to June 24, 2010, in order to solve the problem of resource shortage at the initial stage of the construction of the website, a special column of "Morricone's Music Uploaded by webfriends" was opened. The author's deep understanding of Ennio Morricone has also gone through a long process. In 1979, when the author was 42 years old, an opportunity I was sent abroad by the government, I heard the theme song "Once Upon a Time in the West", whose name was unknown at that time, but i was attracted by its magnificent and touching melody. Because of the closed environment at that time, it was also a chance to travel to Beijing 15 years later in 1994. I bought a new CD in a large shopping mall in the Asian Games Village at the high price of half a month's income at that time. After coming back, I learned the name of the music when I carefully studied its brochure, At the same time, I also learned that its author was "ENNIO MORRICONE". When I returned to Nanjing, I listened to all the 12 pieces in the CD with great eagerness, which is what I knew about Morricone at that time. I was 57 years old that year

It was only from the establishment of this website in 2003 that I gradually learned more about Moricone's works and saw Moricone's photos. With the enthusiastic help of many netizens at home and abroad, he gradually collected nearly complete music works and related film resources after more than 10 years. Only then can we have a more comprehensive understanding of his works. From 2012 to 2022, it will be another 10 years. I have successively edited and completed Volume 1, Volume 2, and Volume 3 of the Molycone Lover's Manual (hereinafter referred to as the "Manual"). In the process of editing these books, I searched and studied a large number of documents at home and abroad, and studied his works, his activities, his life, and his morality in depth Now, at the age of 86 in 2023, I can finally use my own words: "Enio Morricone is a great musician"!

Morricone was born in a poor family in Rome, Italy. His father played the trumpet in a nightclub to make a living. Although his desire was to be a doctor or a chess player when he was young, one day his father put the trumpet in his hand and said to him, "I rely on this instrument to support my family and bring you up. You should do the same." The difficult environment made him take on family responsibilities very early, When he was a teenager, he had learned to play the trumpet, and sometimes he could replace his father. In 1940, when he was 12 years old, he officially entered the Conservatory of Music. At that time, during World War II, he had already participated in the performance of the orchestra in school, and later obtained the qualification certificate of trumpet player and band arranger. In the 1950s and 1960s, he began to work as an "apprentice" in the workplace to help his parents earn a small salary. (See FB5501, FB6106, Volume 2 of the "HANDBOOK"). Later, in the 1960s and 1970s, he further participated in the work of many dramas, films, and radio programs as an "Arrenger". At that time, because he was unknown, he was even humiliated by being "abandoned" (see FB6003R, Volume 2 of the "HANDBOOK").... The bumpy experience in his youth has laid a solid foundation for his future career

Morricone is really a musical genius. He has a solid foundation of study in the Saint Cecilia Conservatory of Music, and has a distinctive musical thinking. As early as 1960, his musical talent was admired by the famous director Salce, but he lost the opportunity due to the intervention of the producer. In 1961, Sacei invited him again to score for the film "Il federale", which became the first milestone for him to enter the movie music palace. Although his personal interest is "absolute music", he finally devoted himself to the cause of film music out of the reality of life. With his unique thinking and bold creation, the “Bounty Trilogy” from 1964 to 1966 and the “Past Trilogy“ from 1968 to 1984 made him famous all over the world. Through "Le professionnel", "Gli intoccabili", "The Mission", "Paradiso Cinema", "The legend of 1900", "Malena", "La califfa"...., Up to the films like "The Hateful Eight", which won the Oscar in 2015, fully demonstrated that he is a talented "musician"

First of all, he is said to be "great" because of his amazing diligence. According to the filmography of the fourth edition of this website and the information on CHIMAI website, he created original music for about 450 films in his life. The average number is 7.5 per year. In the highest year of 1972, there were 26 films, with an average of 14 days for every flm. This number ranks first in the world today. In his later years, he spent most of his time in concerts all over the world. According to the statistics of WIKI (or the appendix of Volume 3 of the "HANDBOOK"), Morricome hosted 294 concerts in more than 50 countries (regions) in the 34 years from September 1986 to January 2020, with an average of 8.8 concerts held every year. He is "great" also because of the universality of his works. First of all, from the perspective of music itself, he is good at learning from Verdi, Mozart, Beethoven, Bach ....Such classical musicians. He is good at pursuing the realistic route of eclecticism and integrating them into jazz, pop, rock, electronics, avant-garde music, and national music . Such characteristics are rare among other musicians. Secondly, from the perspective of the mass character of his works, his works are widely welcomed by the people of all countries, different nationalities, different faiths, and different classes in the world. From the contents of Volume 2 and Volume 3 of the "HANDBOOK", we can see that the number of other films (FB, FC and FU) reused his original music works has exceeded the number of his original music films (FA). In addition to western developed countries such as Europe and the United States, its influence has spread to China, Japan, India, Egypt, Türkiye, the Philippines, Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela and even Myanmar. When we say he is "great", we should talk more about his personality charm. Morricone is a Catholic. He lives and works in a regular way and never goes out of line; He is modest and prudent in dealing with people and never shows off; For social affairs, he took a clear stand to uphold justice, support the weak and oppose oppression. This can be clearly concluded from many film music and his activities he composed.
