Niagara Falls

In Augst 1989, I gone to America first for import
fertilizer technic. We visit a turbine compressor plant of Dresser-Rand
Corp. It located in Olean city where is about 100 KM distant from
Buffalo. After visit plant, we have the greater part of a day
time for waiting flight to Houston. So we was arranged to visit
the famous Niagara Falls near Buffalo

Use the satellite map, I understood
the cause of forming the Falls
|
|
|
|
Erie lake is in west south side of the figure,
its altitude is 174M; Its north side is Canada, south is
America; Ontario lake is in east north side of the figure,
its altitude is only 75M. A land with bar form between the
two lakes and separate them . There is a Niagara River in
the land and link the two lakes. The superelevation with
99M and the cliff of displacement in the Niagara river formed
the Niagara Falls

of flow reached 6740 stere/Sec. |

The Goat island made the Niagara river from
one devides into two. The left side in the figure is American
Falls (Within the boundaries of America); its width is 305M,
fall is 50.9M; The right side in the figure is Horse shoe
Falls (Within the boundaries of Canada); its width is 793M,
fall is 49.4M, its rate of flow is 19 times of the American
Falls. So it is more grand sight.
