1945年夏天﹐天气炎热﹐ Roberts Wells为了想些寒冷的事情﹐于是他作了短诗“ Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, Jack Frost nipping at your nose …… ” Mel Torme来访时﹐刚好发现了这首短诗﹐发觉可以继续作成一首歌曲﹐于是他与Robert坐在钢琴旁﹐花了45分钟完成了这首歌﹐一年后Nat King Cole就把歌曲灌录成唱片。

歌曲体现了非裔美国人的文化，歌词明确的主题是描写一位来自美国乔治亚州甜美的褐色皮肤的女子。
《Sweet Georgia Brown》这首歌实在难以捉摸，歌曲写于1925年，除了很多歌手唱过外，也有很多乐器改编曲，而各人唱的版本歌词有出入，有增有减，The Beatles的版本歌词又是另一个样，而Elvis presley版本更离谱，Ethel Waters演唱的版本是1925年，是最早出现的。
