Storyline |
001-L'istruttoria è chiusa: dimentichi (internationally released as The Case Is Closed, Forget It) is a 1971 Italian crime drama film directed by Damiano Damiani. It is based on the novel Tante Sbarre (trad. "Many Bars"), written by Leros Pittoni. It was awarded at the Tehran Film Festival.(WIKI) |

004-(Comment) Because of a violation of traffic regulations an architect is put inprison. There he witnesses the grim reality of life behind bars: corrupt staff, corrupt inmates, an inhuman judicial system and the power of theMafia. "L´istruttoria e chiusa: dimentichi" - which translates into "Theinvestigation is closed: forget about it" is one in a series of politicalthrillers Damiano Damiani (when he was good, he could to some extent rivalFrancesco Rosi, when he became pretentious and preachy he was intolerable)specialized in in the late 60´s through the 70´s. Its overall target isthecorrupt Italian state of that day and age. Its means is classic melodramaofthe wrongful accused who has to live through purgatory. Because he iswrongful accused, an intellectual and played by the then handsome FrancoNero we pity him for that (there is ample space for the suspicion that wewould perceive his private hell in public custody as appropriate were he acriminal). To prove his case Damiani this time took the easy way out andthat´s why his film is - judged by Damiani´s own best abilities -borderingon the mediocre side - and still worth watching; which is an achievementinitself. In 1968, with The Day of the Owl, he started a series of films in which purposes of social criticism, often related to the connections between politics and crime, were mixed with a spectacular scheme. His 1971 film Confessions of a Police Captain won the Golden Prize at the 7th Moscow International Film Festival.[6] In 1973 Damiani also debuted as an actor, playing Giovanni Amendola in Florestano Vancini's The Matteotti Murder.
In 1984 it came the television success, with the first season of one of the most famous Italian series, La piovra, a description of the contemporary Italian Mafia and its involvement in politics. His last feature film was Assassini dei giorni di festa , directed in 2002.
