Morricone's Commentary Column2 MC2-010-eng

Characteristic instruments used by Morricone-010- Various cymbals - hi hat, jazz cymbals, etc
1. Histiry:Cymbals , have existed since ancient times. Cymbals can be found in reliefs and paintings in the Armenian highlands (7th century BC), Babylon, Assyria, ancient Egypt, ancient Greece, and ancient Rome. The mention of cymbals also appears throughout the entire Bible, through many Psalms and songs praising God. The cymbal may have been introduced to China from Central Asia in the 3rd or 4th century AD. Hi-hats were originally called clangers, which were small cymbals mounted on the rim of the bass drum and struck with the arm on the bass drum pedal. The hi-hat, which could be played with both hands and feet, was probably developed around 1926 by the drum fitting company Walberg and Auge. Until the late 1960s, standard hi-hat sizes were 36 cm, 33 cm, and pedals as small as 30 cm were restricted to children's kits. In the early 1970s, hard rock drummers began using 38cm hi-hats such as the Paiste Giant Beat. In the late 1980s, Zildjian released its revolutionary 30cm Special Recording model, a small, heavy hi-hat cymbal used for close miking live or in recording. By the late 1990s, the standard size was again 36 cm. Modern hi-hats are much heavier, reflecting the trend toward heavier weights. Another evolution is that a pair of hi-hat cymbals may not be exactly the same, with the bottom usually being heavier than the top. Other recent developments include the X-hat (fixed, closed or semi-open hi-hat) and cable-controlled or remote hi-hats. Sabian introduces Triple Hi-Hat. In this hi-hat variation, the top cymbal moves downward, the bottom cymbal simultaneously moves upward, and the middle cymbal remains stationary.(See here
2. Construction: The standard hi-hat has two cymbals mounted on a stand consisting of a mated metal tube and rod supported by a tripod and attached to the pedal. The fixed bottom cymbal sits at the top of the tube, usually parallel to the ground, but often has an adjustment screw that allows it to be tilted slightly. The top cymbal is mounted on a stem, and the bottom is closed with a foot pedal. The integrated clutch assembly includes a spring that can be adjusted to set resistance, which also changes return rate and tension, as well as adjustment of the gap between the cymbals when open. Some hi-hats allow the tripod to tilt or rotate. Another configuration omits the tripod and attaches the stand to the side of the bass drum, especially for kits with very large or double bass drums.

3. Features: Cymbals are played by bringing them together with a pedal, creating a "click" sound, or by striking them with a stick, which can open, close, open and then close after strike to dampen the ring, or close and then open to create a sparkling effect at the end of a note. Depending on how hard the hi-hat is struck and whether it's "open" (i.e. the pedal is not depressed, so the two cymbals don't come together), the hi-hat can produce a range of dynamics, from a very quiet "chck" (or "chick" ”) sound, accomplished by simply pressing the pedal - this works well for a soft accompaniment at the beginning of a ballad or guitar solo, to very loud (for example, hitting a stick hard against a fully open hat, a for loud technology of heavy metal music songs)

Introduction to other cymbals within Morricone
Note:The cymbal is a widely used musical instrument with a long history. Due to differences in material, size, thickness, shape, etc., it can be divided into dozens or even hundreds of types. Interested friends can conduct in-depth research on it themselves (see 01 and 02, 03). Below this page, we will only provide a brief introduction to some varieties of Morricone's works, such as jazz cymbals, brushed cymbals, etc

Heartbeat's line of jazz cymbals was launched in 2016. Heartbeat recreates some of the amazing sounds from the late 1960s jazz scene, combining old-school manufacturing with a unique Heartbeat style to appeal to today's drummers. Initially only ride cymbals were available, but the range has since been expanded to include hi-hats and crashes in addition to beautiful 26-inch rides. Deeper, warmer, better than the Epic series。
